Pretty Kitty is in the style of the 243 “ways to win” generation of Australian slot machines that first appeared about 10 years ago. It has a traditional 3×5 format and a free games bonus feature. Payouts are left to right.
The best part of this game is that the free game feature is simply won by getting three scatters anywhere on the screen. It is a nice change from the scatter on reel 2, 4 and 5 (while also hopping on one foot and balancing a book on your head) requirements of some other games.
Crazy cat ladies will go mad for this game.
Interface and Layout
The interface is nice and simple. The graphics are crisp and the cats moving when you win is very cute. The buttons and number displays are large and clear and are laid out simply at the bottom of the screen. You will not get confused or accidentally press the wrong button on this very well laid-out game.
The 243 “ways to win” can be thought of as either “every possible payline” or doing away with the concept of paylines altogether. It works like this: if three or more matching symbols appear anywhere in the first three or more reels, you win. It’s that simple.
So all you need to do is keep your eye on how many matching symbols you hit on consecutive reels (running left to right), regardless of where the sit on each reel. One good advantage is that there’s no more false excitement from failing to win after catching three matching symbols in the first three reels because they do not sit on a pre-defined payline.
The background music is a little like elevator music but at the same time is not irritating or loud (or actual Kenny G).
Why we like it
Basically this game is really easy to use and understand. The ‘Pretty Kitty’ wilds appear anywhere on the screen, including in stacks.
However, if you get a full stack of matching cat symbols on reel 1, it will also expand any matching symbols across the screen.
This really comes into its own when you get a ‘Pretty Kitty’ wild as well.
Three ‘Diamond Collar’ scatters will activate 15 free games and the free games can be won during the feature.
During the free games the wild feature is stacked on reel 1, which is excellent should it come up.
Another nice touch is that you will get paid for only two scatter symbols.
What we didn’t like
When the game first starts the bet is at maximum. If you don’t reduce this you could be in for a nasty shock. Unless you win of course, at which point you may end up doing a little happy dance.
Also, the payouts for any gem wins are really quite meagre, even by slot machine standards.
